what would happen if i could not make my scheduled court date? How can I postpone it? Can I file a continuence?

If you already missed it, you can not ask for a continuance. You need to check was order was entered. If did not appear a default judgment could have been entered against you. If you can not make a future court date you can call the other side and see if they will agree to get a new date, which you should confirm in writing, or file a motion and request a new court date.
