Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Jurisdiction of the court

How can I contest the jusrisdiction of the court?

I came to IL for a temporary contract of service of 2 years. The reason why I came to IL is to be able to make more money and pay my bills after I widowed. I assumed the responsability of trying to pay as many bills as I could. However, coming to IL was worse than staying in PR because things are so expensive here that it was even harder for me to pay my bills.

I have residency in PR and have lived there in the summers and Christmas time. My contract and house lease expires next month and I must go back home with my young daughter for an interview in PR. My debts are from PR and not from IL. I don't have family here and don't know any members of the court here. Much less do I know how the law works here. I received a letter to appear in court here but in reality have no money to stay here. Also, since I signed the terms and conditions of the credit card in PR and not in IL- should not I get a fair trial according to those terms? I really need to go back to my mom's house to live there for now while I go to job interviews in PR . Can I contest the jurisdiction of the court? If so, how?

Is there such thing as a lawyer who defends the poor? Please help...

Hey Laina:

Go back to Puerto Rico, wait 180 days and file bankruptcy there.
