neighbor called cops for destruction of property(he rents) when i put 6 nails n plywood on a gate opening into my yard. i hire reputable conp to fix, he refuses and trying to make me use non registered buddy company, what should i do

What did the cops say? If there's a gate opening into your yard from the neighbor's there may be an existing easement between your property and the neighbor's. The renter may have the right to use of that easement. I have NO idea what a "buddy company" is, registered or otherwise. This may be a case of easement or adverse possession where the neighbor has vested rights through the gate across your property. Otherwise, insufficient information.
