what does adjudicate mean

my neighbors have lost their kids like for the third time. they have to go to court to see if the case has been adjudicated yet.. what does this mean.. that if it has been adjudicated are they going to get the kids back?. to which they DONT deserve them..

Hello. Thank you for your

question. From your

description of the situation,

your neighbors are in juvenile

court which is the court that

deals with delinquent children, or children who

have committed crimes, etc.

Here adjudication refers to

whether the court has conducted a hearing and/or

made a determination as to

whether to return the children

to the parents (your neighbors), or place them

as wards of the State of Il.

in a juvenile detention center

until they reach a certain age, usually the age of 21.
