Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I bought new vehicle that my wife drives but it is titled in my name and I pay insurance. My wife does not work and does not pay on any of the bills. If I don't pay them, they don't get paid. We have been married for 13 years. I want a divorce primarily because we are not compatible. We have a child together and that's why I stayed so long. If we divorce, what will be my obligation to her and what about the vehicle? Can she keep it an.d I will still be stuck with the note or will she have to buy me out of it? My plan is to sell it prior to the divorce - can I do that?

The car an the note are only a small part of an entire picture. As for the note, unless and until it is paid off you are liable to the company. If in a divorce your wife is given the car, the court may order her or you to pay that obligation. You will be ordered to pay child support and possibly maintenance to your wife. Do not look at items bit by bit but as a part of a total package.
