Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My daughter attends school in the district my soon to be ex husband and I lived in when we were happily married (he stills lives there). I moved to a different city and I want her to go to the school district that I currently reside in. My lawyer is saying that she can't attend school in a different district, and that he would have residential custody, therefore leaving me to pay him child support. He said my other option would be to move back to that city. What other options do I have. Please advise. Thanks
