Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

the father of my child hasn't been around or helped or asked about her since I left a month ago. He has been convicted of numerous drug charges, been to prison, and has a drinking problem. Is there a way I can get his rights taken away or what do I need to do?

The only way to have someone's rights taken away, is for the baby to be adopted by someone and his rights terminated. No other method is valid.
