Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I was an Employee for a sub contractor of comcast and he issued us the hand held computer ,printer and cable meter . i was laid off on April 2nd 2010 and he said he was gonna pick up the eq but failed to show and the last email i got from him was that i needed to mail it to him, postage,insurance and signature required . do i have to mail this to him and pay for it? how long after i was laid off does the eq become mine?

The equipment was never yours to begin with. You have no property rights to it and could be charged with theft if you do not return it.
