Can my employer mandate that I take a photo(image) of myself and transmit it electronically in email everyday I work?

This sounds like an unusual request and appears to be a form of employee surveillance. Do you work by yourself in a remote location? Is the boss trying to verify you are working or at some type of worksite? If the photo is one of you at a worksite, as strange as the request might be, I can't think of anything that would make the request unlawful.
