Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Hiring a Candidate

I made a verbal offer to a prospective candidate and he accepted. After reviewing with others that spoke with him, we decided he wasn't the best for the position. Can we be held legally responsible?

Re: Hiring a Candidate

Hello. Apparently you did not give him a written acceptance letter. Anyone can potentially file a lawsuit against you, however under these circumstances I believe that you are in a good position to defend against such a claim. However, you may wish to write this person a letter

advising them that you have decided against hiring them. In the furture I recommend that you carefully weigh your options before advising a prospective that they have been hired. Will be happy to discuss this topic further and in more detail.
