Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

My boyfriend purchased a car as a gift for me. He works at a dealership got a vehicle registration and temporary plates. We have ended our relationship and now he wants me to return the car . It was a gift a nd I do not have the title and the plates are temporary. After further research he never filed the temp plates or title. I gave my other car to a friend. The title is still at the dealership and I an driving on illegal dealer plates. I don't know what to do. What legal re purse do I have?

If you are driving a car still titled in the dealership with dealership plates, you may be driving illegally and the dealership may have a good claim to getting the car back. Proving a gift will be difficult although your having given your car away in reliance on it may be some evidence you understood it as a gift. You may or may not have a claim against him for fraud. My best thought is to take whatever information you do have to an attorney; testing the waters with an attorney's help to see what if anything this ex- may be willing to do to put you back into your prior situation with a car may be the best starting point.
