Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

lease of residence

I have 9 months left on a 2-yr lease. Lost job, no longer able to pay. Advised landlord that I would move out and will try to help find tenant. I have no income. What are my options?

Re: lease of residence

You are obligated on the lease until an acceptable new tenant is found. It sounds like you are doing what you can.

If things get real bad, and you can not find a new tenant or a job, you may need to consider bankruptcy down the line.

Good luck!

Re: lease of residence

My recommendation is to file a bankruptcy as soon as possible. This will terminate your obligations under the lease. I am a bankruptcy practitioner; I am a debt relief agency under federal bankruptcy law. This is not an "ad", but under the circumstances, I feel that I am obligated to say so. Good Luck!

Re: lease of residence

Before filing bankruptcy, try working something out with the landlord, no need to file bankruptcy if the landlord will work with you.
