Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Long story but here's the short version. Someone put a lein on my exes property claiming my ex owes him money for material and construction on the property. From the start we all knew it was a scam deal but my ex trusted this guy. My ex gave him all the original receipts but I obtained copies from the companies. I also had the guy sign an agreement between him and my ex that the building would be transfered to my ex and the guy was to pay all costs as my ex "has provided all monies for the rehad of said property". It's been going on for a few years and my ex had to fire his lawyers as the lawyer wanted my ex to sign an agreement he hadn't even read that says my ex owes him the money plus interest and would sign over the property. Funds are limited as this scam ruined him financially. He needs help!!!!!! What are his options at this point.

1 Answer from Attorneys

Short story made shorter: Have your ex contact an attorney. There are written contracts involved, and apparently mechanic's liens, and who knows what. Also, if it is a scam, he can contact the Illinois Attorney General's Office of Consumer Fraud & Protection and file a complaint there.
