Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

How much notice must a landlord give a tenant to evict the property. I have a friend who's apartment building was just sold and he was told he had 20 days to move.

Depends on if he has a written lease or not, and what the term is. If he has a written lease, he gets to stay until the end of the lease. If he does not have a written lease, the notice period would depend on when he pays rent. He gets to stay until the end of the next rent period. For example, if he pays every month on the first, he gets at least 30 days notice. If his landlord gave him notice today, he would have until June 30. If the landlord did not get the notice to him until after June 1, he would have until July 31.
