Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

My small town Alsey Illinois says I own a nuisance house. I have bordered up windows but roof is falling in. There is no way to get into house though. They seem to think they can just come and tear it down and send me a bill. What can I do? There are at least two other houses in worse shape but the owner is on the town board.

this is an issue that you should be able to find in your municipal ordinance. generally, most ordinances require buildings to be safe to the general public. if the roof is falling in, there is a possibility someone can get injured if the building falls down. generally, the city will demolish the building and send a bill to you for the cost of the demolition. if you do not pay the bill, they will sue you on that.
