Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I have been unemployed for most of this year. My property taxes are due.I can not pay them now ,what can I do ? Is ther exceptions for the unemployed?

No, there are no exceptions for unemployment.

You can contact your county tax office and ask if they offer a payment plan. You can also contact your mortgage company and ask if they will pay them and tack the amount owed onto your mortgage balance.

I'm not aware of an unemployment exemption. There is a schedule on the tax bill as to what payments can be made and in what amounts on the back of the tax bill, and after which date no further payment will be accepted, and after which date, your taxes will be sold. It would appear to me that since you have income, you could POSSIBLY qualify to file under Ch. 13 of the Bankruptcy Code, and pay off the taxes due through the Ch. 13 Plan. Good Luck!!
