Legal Question in Tax Law in Illinois

Tax lien and tax return

Hello,

I had a tax lien filled against my house this year for some back taxes due on a business I used to manage part time, but not own. Can of worms there... Anyhow, my question was this, can the IRS hold my 2004 tax return monies due to this lien? In other words, will I not get the reund becuase of the lien?

Thank you for your help with this!!

Re: Tax lien and tax return

The IRS filed the lien because they want to be sure that when you sell your house, they get their money. Whether you have a lien or not, there is a tax balance due that is being attributed to you.

Chances are they will offset the balance with your refund.

If this balance is due to a business tax debt that you don't believe you owe, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss the matter further.

Take care.
