Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

I was driving someone else's car and I got pulled over. Their plates came up suspended. I did not know the plates were suspended. I'm pleading not guilty because it's not my car and I had no knowledge of the suspension. What can I say in court to beat this case and avoid any negative impact on my license or ant jail time?
