Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

My husband and I are executors of my dad's estate that passed in 2011. I have three siblings. The deed has not been transferred into all of our names, because the siblings refused to sign it. Therefore, all these years I have been responsible for the house. I have been renting it out to keep it up etc. Now, they are ready to sign, but want financial statements and receipts etc., when they all did nothing to contribute to the house. I'm I legally binding to show them. What are my rights? It seems unfair for my husband and me to carry the entire financial responsibility, and then they come making requests. This is in the state of Illinois. Please advise.

Why would you not want to show them everything you've done? I would think you'd want to establish the amount that you are due as reimbursement for the funds that you advanced to the estate to keep up the house. You have a right to be reimbursed from the estate for your out-of-pocket costs and you also have a right to claim an executor's fee for time spent on behalf of the estate. You probably want to hire an attorney to help you put this together. You also have a right to hire an attorney to be paid from the estate.

I think you should consult with an attorney. How can you prepare a deed as executors? Are you court appointed? Maybe there are some subtleties or nuances which would make your delivering a deed, without an attorney's advice, not such a good idea. Usually an executor can sell real property and distribute the proceeds to beneficiaries.

Go see an attorney to investigate your options, to understand your legal rights and duties.
