Law for assets of a deceased person

How are a deseased person's assets handled when they are in more than one state? Are the assests handled in the state that the assets are in or are they handled by the state where the person resided at death?

Real estate is administered in the state where it is situated. All other property is handled in the state where the decedent was domiciled. Actual domicile can sometimes be an issue when persons lived in multiple states, but it is generally where the decedent last lived and intended to remain.
