Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

I am a college student and my financial aid office sent me money for no reason. 3 months later they said if I didn't have the money they were going to bill me. They didn't mean to give me money and I didn't ask for any money. I didn't sign on anything. Am I legally obligated to pay this money back? Why would I have to pay them for their mistake?

From your education and upbringing I think that you already know and knew that it was wrong to have accepted the money without asking any questions or inquiring about it. You shouldn't take what isn't yours. It's possible that some defense could be raised, but it's not worth it. It's a rule that you don't aggravate your mother or your school. They have too much control over your life. Go in, try to make your best deal and then live with it.
