Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

The birth mom of my daughter and I met at a birthday party. She had a beautiful baby there with her and I held her and ended up taking her home with me. Over the course of a few weeks, we kept her full time and consider her as ours and my other kids see her as a sister. She is now 4 years old and the birth mom wants to take her back. She previously said that I would be able to adopt. When she had her as a baby, she hardly changed her diaper. I would pick her up and the baby would smell of pee and cigarettes. Most of the time with terrible rashes from her but up her back. She almost never calls to see her and all of a sudden is wanting her back. Is there anything I can do?

Yes. How did you manage to obtain medical care and shots for her? Did you have a guardianship? If so, the mother will have to petition the court to terminate the guardianship. If you don't have a guardianship already, you need to obtain one, immediately. Contact a local attorney.
