Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Divorce and assets are divided ?

My son was asked to sign divorce papers that she made up. He was asked to leave the house end of Nov. She did not want anything to do with him. He has had his problems with drinking and drugs .So when she throw him out found him a terrible apt. he was not accepting this, He kinda lost it and went out on a binge then admitted himself into rehab. After he got out out on jan 4 . she insisted he go her lawyer and sign the papers . Being a concerned mother he has told me he shouldn't not have signed the papers ,(not sure if he has spoke with someone about this ). I did not have the money to lend him for a lawyer and he has no job ,he lost it while in rehab. and is trying to find work. It has landed him back home living with me since he can not afford to pay for an apartment ,gas, child support or for anything . It is a big mess and someone told me he could seek legal aid that would be free to him . I would just like him to be able to sit down with someone who knows what is the law. I know he has no assets , no 401k, I know she does have 401k and the house was in her name. Can he get some help or advice . Thanks

The general rule is that all assets, regardless of name, are divided on a 50/50 basis.
