Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Indiana

Desperate for a place to live I moved into a rental duplex. Landlord only takes cash and will not issue me a receipt. Electric/gas are also in her name and she won't show me the bill or give me receipts when I pay what she asks. She told me once I prove myself to her, ( she didn't like my credit history d/t I had just filed bankruptcy and have 2 handicapped children.) (most history was medical and NO credit cards)..Anyway, how do I get out of this predicament? I am wanting to move but I kinda can't afford to. She is a very easily angered person and even if I try to talk to her into giving me a lease and putting utilities in my name she'll go nuts on me and I'm afraid she'll boot me and I'm not financially ok to just up and move. HHHHeeeelllpp.

This really is not a legal issue. It is a common sense issue. You need to find a way to get out of there. You have an oral agreement and can give her 30 days notice that you are leaving. Also, what you should do is provide her with an enclosure letter whenever you pay the rent, documenting the amount paid, the date and the amount paid for utilities. Be sure to keep a copy and have a witness available who can later testify that you gave so much on sucha nd such a date . . .
