Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Indiana

My infant daughter (8 weeks) had a mediastinal teratoma removed. After surgery they said she had third spacing and she swelled all over. They gave her bolus' frequently. The swelling came down and she looked great. She died unexpectedly and the doctors seem secretive on what happened. We have tried to speak with the doctors but are told only to speak with the surgeon. We did not have an autopsy. The evening before she passed we were told her platelet count was 9. She was given platelets and doing well at 6:30am on 2/1/10. At 7am that same morning I was told she was not doing well. She passed away in less than a half hour. What can we do?

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. You may have a medical malpractice claim. The way to investigate whether you have a valid claim is to assemble all of the relevant medical records from your OB-Gyn and the hospital and have them reviewed by an Ob-Gyn for an opinion concerning the care your daughter received. Please let me know if I can be of assistance to you in having this investigation done. Larry

Please accept my condolences for your family's loss. I cannot imagine the heartfelt loss that you must be going through.

I have a number of questions. Was the pregnancy normal? Delivery normal? When was the teratoma diagnosed and by whom? I am curious as to why they proceeded with surgery. Any specialists consulted? Was the neoplasm pressing on other areas? How did they even determine that she had the condition?

Please repost with this information or feel free to contact me directly.
