Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Iowa

bank account levy

I found out today by refusal of a check of mine that my account has been levied by a debt collector. My question is that the I have been told by the attorney's assistant who orded the levy that my account will be frozen for a minimum of 120 days even though the debt will be paid in full with in two weeks. Is this correct, legal, is there a way I can speed this process up. Also, I was never notified by the bank or the attorney's office or courts about this, should I have been? Both the bank and the attorney's office are being very vague and have stated it is the others job to notify me of this levy.

Re: bank account levy

Your account was garnished, there should be a court order attached to it, which the bank must share with you.

There are provisions to challenge garnishments, but it would be surprising if you knew NOTHING about this.

It's not the creditor's attorney's job to help you. Go to the source and find out what happened. If the debt has been paid in full, they should agree to release the hold.
