Legal Question in Criminal Law in Iowa

I was attacked and beaten by my neighbor. The police cited both of us for disorderly conduct. She pled guilty. I pled not guilty. She was given a $65 fine plus court costs. My trial by judge is set for July 30. This woman waited for me to come out, attacked me, kicked me in the head repeatedly after knowing I have epilepsy and brain damage. The interaction occurred in my yard, she came at me, and she started the fight. I attempted to defend myself. The police said I should have done nothing. I currently have roughly $30,000 in medical bills so far from the fight. I learned today I will have to have a minimum of two surgeries on my shoulders as a result of the fight, as well as an mri of my brain because I have a concussion and postconcussive syndrome. What is my best option?

You've already selected your best option which is to plead not guilty. I would suggest that you get yourself an attorney to handle this, because you are making some substantial claims here. I'm assuming that you can prove all of this. On the other hand, does your neighbor have any money at all? A judgment against a pauper is not worth the paper it's printed on. A qualified attorney can explain all this in detail.
