Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

my husband abandoned me in Overland Park, Kansas last august 2015. We married in 1999 in Des Monies, Iowa. My children had to move me and my house hold goods here Des Monies Iowa in Sept of 2015. He is now sending money which he claims his half his salary. I want a be legal separation. I am fully disabled have been for 20yrs. How do I get legally get this separation and my share of his income?

You first have to establish residency and file for a dissolution of marriage. That takes one year. There is no separation in Iowa. Whether you are entitled to spousal support or not is a matter for the courts to decide. If there are contested issues such as support or property, you will need the assistance of an attorney.
