Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

change name

My great grandson was raised by his maternal grandmother and step grandfather. At the age of 10 they decided to change his last name to that of the step grandfather. They went to court and legally had the name changed. Now that the boy is a man of almost 20 years of age he wants to get his birth name back again. The kid was never adopted. The grandparents only had custody.

My question to you is how does he go about getting his legal birth name back

Re: change name

He would need to file a petition for a name change. Give proper notice and have a hearing with a judge.
