Legal Question in Employment Law in Kansas

expired job contract

My husband was recently asked to resign from his job and given 6 weeks pay. His original contract was up at the end of December 2003. He was never given another contract for 2004, but was paid as if he had one until mid February when they called him in and asked him to resign. They said he didn't have a new contract anyway. Employment is with a junior college. Shouldn't the college have either offered him a new contract at the end of December or not offered him but not waited until 6 weeks. The college was at an advantage to wait until after National letter of intent signing day to ask him to resign. Can we take any sort of legal action for the college not presenting him with a new contract at the end of December?

Re: expired job contract

I think you need to speak with an attorney to whom you can explain more details, including the college involved. State statutes generally prescribe how contract renewals are to be handled and they vary across the different schools of higher education. Most attorneys, including this one, would need to do a little research on the statutes to provide a dependable answer.
