Legal Question in Employment Law in Kansas

Unfair job termination

My employer terminated me Saturday 11/11/00 by phone. I was to have a meeting with them Friday at 5, I stayed until 5:30. According to the policy and procedures of this workplace, they did not follow any of the policies laid out. Can I contest?

Re: Unfair job termination

You cannot contest on the grounds that the employer did

not follow its own policies and procedures unless

you have a written contract or an employee handbook

which is considered a contract. Kansas is an "employment

at will" state. Absent a contract, you must show that

you were terminated because of your race, sex, age, a

disability, for having a workers compensation claim,

or for blowing the whistle on your company. If you

think you fall into one of these protected categories,

you can call me, toll free, at 877-357-0333.
