Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kansas

I will be brief,

I have been in current lease with my apt in KS. My lease ends this Aug, I pay on time and early. I was CALLED by someone in leasing office that I owe for JANUARY Rent, They said they can not account for me paying it, This is 7 month ago and they are just notifying me now?. the bad news is I can not prove that I did pay Jan 2015 rent , but they can not prove i didn't pay. My legal question is what are my options. I will pay it if i owe it, but to demand that i pay 7 months later seems unreasonable and bad accounting on their part. I gave notice 60days ago and move out in 15 days. paying my last month rent in AUG. If i just walk away and wait to see if the take legal action? I am confused, If i didn't pay rent for any given month i would be evicted i thought? By there own admission they said they have fired the past two accounting people in office for mistakes.

Your options are to pay the money they demand, or not. You might be paying the January rent twice. If you don't pay it, they might sure you after you leave, or give you trouble about your security deposit.
