Collection Harassment

If I am making payments on a medical debt, can the collector still take action against me? I live in Ky.

Generally speaking, the answer is yes. Unless the creditor has AGREED to accept payments and you have lived up to the agreement EXACTLY, then the creditor can proceed to take action against you. Your voluntary payments do not eliminate the right of the creditor to sue for the money owed.

I know it is not the answer you want, but if what you propose was true, you could pay $1 per month on a million dollar debt and never get sued.

Of course, you can negotiate an agreement with the creditor or, if appropriate for you considering your entire financial situation, file bankruptcy.
