Legal Question in Family Law in Kentucky

Is judication a word? I'm writing a report and want to say that the family was in and out of court for different motions, procedures, etc for 2 1/2 years. Here is my sentence. The family spent 21/2 years of judication before they were awarded permanent custody of the child.

Actually, "litigation" fits best in your sentence, but adjudication is the word.
