Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Louisiana

Debt

Can a collection agency collect on a debt that was over 10 years ago? It was a store credit card, I charged a little over 400 dollars on while in college. I graduated in 1997 and was just recently notified about this debt. Am I still liable for this?

Re: Debt

A credit card debt in Louisiana is an open account debt. The prescription (statute of limitations) on an open account is three (3) years from the day payment is exigible.

You should call an attorney if you have questions.
