Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Louisiana

Can I be arrested for not paying Payday loans that have been taken out with multiple companies in the US? My husband and I took out several at the end of last year. In January, 2012, we entered into an agreement with a consolidation company. Now in May, we've decided to negotiate these ourselves since the payment is so high. They said the payment is so high so they can pay them off and avoid us getting sued. They've only paid about 5 of 18 debts. What can happen and what are my options?

As long as there was no fraud, you can be sued for monies owed but not charged with a criminal offense. You are under no obligation to continue with the debt consolidation company.
