Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Here in Louisiana, when a child turns 18 and is not in college, child support ends. Do I just stop paying for that child - he has a younger brother who I would continue paying child support or do I need to go to court and get a legal modification to the initial ruling. Our child support was determined by a court appointed hearing officer and merely states the amount to be paid monthly. When payment ends is not addressed.

You need to get a Judgment first. You can't just stop paying for him, or you will be held in contempt of court. File for a reduction, then the Court will reduce the payment and give you a credit for what you have paid since he turned 18. DO NOT STOP PAYING UNTIL YOU GET THAT JUDGMENT.

If you need someone to file the reduction for you, feel free to call me. I'm here on the Westbank.
