Legal Question in Employment Law in Louisiana

The company I work for adopted a new policy effective January 1 that all employees would be given 80 hours PTO time at the beginning of each years to use for vacation and sick days. Any time that we had accured from past years were paid out to us. My question is - Is there any law that states how much they have to pay you per hour for unused time? They paid us minimum wage which is about half of what I make an hour. If I had taken the time off I would have been paid my full hourly wage. This doesn't seem fair. I am a dedicated worker and I never take time off because I am very loyal to my job and feel like I put everyone in a bind if I take off. Is there any laws on this? I learned my lesson and will take every hour available to me at this point.

Unless the law has changed, they have to pay you what you were earning at the time the hours were accrued. However, if their policy was USE or LOSE, then to have paid you anything was a bonus.
