Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana

Auto title dispute-split value

I am listed on a new 04 dbl cab toy tacoma purchased three months ago by my ex-live-in boyfriend and my self-paid for in cash. He has possession of the vehicle and will not sell the vehicle to pay me half it's worth. I want to take the vehicle and place it in storage. Can I get in trouble for taking my own vehicle? If I do not get the vehicle from him, how do I make him sell it so I can get half of it's worth? --name removed--- [email protected]

Re: Auto title dispute-split value

If you can prove you paid for it with your own money, and that it was NOT A GIFT to him, then you may get the truck or the money back. Since you are a co-owner on the title, it makes sense that you have equal access to the vehicle. I suggest you speak with an attorney or at least file a suit against him to return the truck to you, or the money, or 1/2 of the money, whichever applies. Since you were not married, there is no community property issue.
