Legal Question in Social Security Law in Louisiana

Disability related to cardiac disease

I am 59 years old, and 5 months ago I had triple bi-pass surgery for blocked arteries and an aortic valve and aortic root replacement due to degenerative tissue disease. I have returned to work, but because of required lifting I continue to experience pain. What are my chances of drawing Social Security Disability? Also, should I leave my job before before applying?

Re: Disability related to cardiac disease

I cannot make the decision for you concerning when or if you should leave your employment. Qualifying for Social Security Disability payments depends on what your doctor says about your ability to continue to work at your present job. In addition, your age, education, training, and experience are considered to determine if you are qualified to work in another field that would not be affected by your medical problems. There is a remote chance that you might claim disability under workers' compensation, but that depends on a number of factors which are not contained in your question. Length of employment, type of work, etc. would be considered. By-the-way, have you ever taken the diet medication known as Phen-Phen? They include, PHENTERMINE, ADIPEX, PONDIMIN, and REDUX. Those drugs have been associated with heart problems.
