Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

Is an Affidavit of Death and Heirship always required to open a succession in the state of Louisiana. What if you are not sure of the person's death time, can that be left blank (I'm trying to establish heirship from my great-great grandfather to me. I know grandmother and mother's death). Does the Succession document require all death dates also?

The Affidavit is necessary to open a succession. The exact date of death isn't needed. You can just say "John Smith died on or about May 22, 2016."
