Legal Question in Consumer Law in Maryland

Rescind Security Alarm Monitoring Contract

At the time of my move, I sent a letter canceling my services as suggested by Customer Service. Later I received a phone call from billing stating I had a five year contract and was liable for payment for that five years. I was unaware of signing a contract and would not have done so since I knew a move was possible in a few years. I do not have a copy of the contract. Please advise.

Obviously you can not go any further until you know what you signed on to. Ask them to send you a copy of the contract, avoiding mentioning that you do not have your copy, but that you want to make sure their copy agrees with what you signed. If you signed on to 5 years of service you may be stuck, but perhaps can get the new owner of your property to take over your remaining time.

The issue is whether you signed a contract. Call them and state you will pay according to the contract and that they need to proffer a signed copy of the contract under which you are liable. After obtaining a contract that you did, in fact, sign, read it carefully. Also look at the default provision or early termination clause.
