Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Dead Beat Parent

the ncp owes a substantial amount of money and has run off to TX to avoid paying child support in MD. There has been 2 warrants out for ncp arrest re child support since 08/2006 & 10/2006. Nothing is being done since ncp moved. Do I have to wait until ncp comes back into MD? Any advise will be of great help

Re: Dead Beat Parent

Most states, including probably TX, are part of an interstate compact that enables people in your situation to enforce local judgments in other states. If the ncp is working in TX, you should contact a family attorney in the locale where the ncp is and get them to file a reciprocal action there to enforce the MD award. It's also possible that there's a local government office of child support enforcement that can do this at no cost to you.
