Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I made a mistake and got caught stealing twice for my daughter but the places tried to say I was involves in something else so I technically have 4 theft charges under 1000 but only 2 are valid. I was prescribe endocet a few times and used the medicine to this day but I will be getting prescribed the medicine in my pain managent appt. My parents think I'm a drug addict and that I'm unfit but I just messed up and made two very bad decisions. Since my charges I have gotten a house and a job but they are trying to take my daughter from me claiming I'm unfit. Is it possible that I would lose my daughter because I made bad decisions? Also my dad was abusive and I have a recording of my mom and I talking where I spoke on that and her response was when have I felt threatened recently. Would that be valid proof for court?

Judges are reluctant to take custody from a bio mother and give it to grandparents, but the bottom line is they must act in the best interests of the child. Since the thefts apparently occurred before you got the house and job, they will be of less significance to the judge. I don't think the "dad abuse" recording will be admissible as evidence. However, nothing prevents you from requiring your mother (or father) to testify about this. But unless he's demonstrated similar tendencies toward your daughter, it may not be significant.

You need to seek the assistance of an experienced family law attorney to represent you in this matter. Check with your county bar association to see what reduced fee or even pro bono (free) services might be available to you if you income qualify.
