Legal Question in Medical Leave in Maryland

i am 35 weeks pregnant. My employer has just informed me that i will need to pay they cost of giving birth in advance. Is this legal

Congratulations on the upcoming birth. Unfortunately your question doesn't make much sense. The employer asked you to pay them for what? If you mean your employer's INSURANCE required a co-pay for ob care and/or the hospital stay, that would be governed by the insurance policy and you'd need to refer to the insurance policy at issue. Sometimes doctors might have a flat fee for ob related care but that is an issue with the doctor billing and something your employer shouldn't be involved with. Otherwise, it is unlikely that an employer can make an employee pay for anything related to any medical leave, whether for a birth or otherwise.
