Legal Question in Medical Leave in Maryland

Hello I'm a medical assistant who works for a private practice. I'm pregent and plan to work untill I'm due. What are my options for Family or matunity leave. This is a three person practice. That inclueds the docotor. I'm scared of not having my job.

There is no right to family or maternity leave for employees of small companies like yours. The Family and Medical Leave Act only applies to companies with 50 or more workers. However, you may still have some protection under the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (part of the Civil Rights Act). You should consult counsel before going out on leave and see what to do that can best protect your position. There may also be maternity leave provisions in an employee handbook that, even without statutory protection, would constitute an implied contract of employment.
