Re: contrract dispute

Prepare an invoice for the cost of boarding her dogs for 2 years and tell her you will release the dogs when she has paid your bill.

Mechanics use this approach with automobiles but in that case there is a "mechanic's lien law" which gives them this right.

If she gets a lawyer you will probably be ordered by the court to return the dogs without first being paid unless you can prove she legally abondoned them...

Re: contrract dispute

Under Sec. 16-701 of the MD Commercial Law Article, you could have sent notice to the owner that she had 10 days to retrieve the dogs and pay any charges due, or you would sell them to a public sale to curtail the expenses she incurred. Had she not timely responded, you could have done that or just kept the dogs as your own. It sounds like that is what you want to do now. If you send her official notice now by certified/registered mail, presumably she'll demand the dogs back, and if so you should demand payment of whatever charges she's incurred. If you refuse to release the dogs until paid, she might sue you to get them back, and you could countersue for your fees/expenses.
