Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

hi, my name is mike and im having some legal issues. it all started with my dad working for this guy named anthony harris, back in august of 2009 my dad worked for him on fixing houses after my dad got done helping him, anthony did NOT pay my dad. it was about $4000. a month went by and he still didnt pay him. well we ended up losing our apartment unit and with no money we had no idea what to do, we had ask anthony to rent us a storage unit to put all of are stuff in and he agreed and gave a check. after we have put all of are belongings, two weeks later the storage place called us saying that the check bounces and that we to had to pay $300 to keep are stuff. well to keep the story short we lost everything because of him and till this day he has not payed my dad yet. please help, need some advice. we tried getting a lawyer but we dont have the money to hire one.

If you have a written agreement between your dad and the individual, a written agreement from the storage company and a copy of the bounced check, you may be able to file a small claims matter in District Court which can easily be done without an attorney. If you don't have any of these things then even with an attorney, your case me be hard to prove.
