Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland

A lessee refuses to pay rent and has not paid for several months. A large balance has accrued against the lease. What options does a co-lessee have to protect himself against the debt of the first lessee?

if this is your room-mate you are probably stuck. Depending on what your leas says, you may need to pay the whole rent or your landlord will may kick you out. You may have be able to file a landlord tenant action for failure to pay rent (though this would be unusual); alternatively there are some other legal actions to take, but they may be costly.
