Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland

A friend of mine came to my apartment and drank a few beers with some other friends. He purchased these beers himself, and I had nothing to do with any purchase of alcohol. He then left and went to the local bar, where he got extremely intoxicated. When he left my apartment, he was tipsy at most. On his way back into the apartment, he decided to climb over a stair railing, where he then fell off and sustained a heavy injury. Am I liable at all for this injury, as he consumed a small amount of alcohol in my apartment?

You are in all likelihood not liable for this. Under the legal doctrine known as assumption of the risk, a claimant who takes an unnecessary risk or places himself in a dangerous situation which contributes to his injury cannot recover. His inebriation is of course also a contributing factor.
